The Business That is Halloween

Halloween has not always been a big thing in the Philippines. But of course, with the heavy American influence, the holiday just got bigger and bigger. I think when I was a kid, trick or treating was not widespread. Only in specific communities was it done. These days, I think the same thing applies, with many barangays not having kids going around trick or treating. Very much unlike the Christmas carolers that are like flies in December. Anyhow, it looks like Halloween is just another holiday which brings out the entrepreneur in people. Sure, it is all about fun, but believe it or not, there is a business behind it as well. Here's an interesting infographic about it. Via: Business Credit Cards Blog

Space Life Isn't All that Fine and Dandy

Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica fans, here's a wake up call for us! If you (like me) have spent a considerable portion of your time dreaming of living in a space ship, you might want to think about it again. I came across an article called Horror Stories from Space - and boy, are they stories worth telling on Halloween! They outlined the top 10 awful things that happen - for real - in space stations. Here are a couple that make me want to stick to fiction. Toilet troubles One of the peskiest recurring problems on the station is the toilet situation. There are two toilets on the space station – one in the Russian segment, and one in the United States modules. But both have been balky, breaking and requiring on-orbit plumbing jobs to get them working again. Then there's the issue of what happens to the waste water – as of May 2009, urine is recycled into clean drinking water, and is also recycled into water for bathing and food preparation. "It's sort of

What's With Costumes?

I've never been one to expend much effort on celebrating holidays, but I do enjoy watching others go out of their way. I appreciate Christmas and all it stands for, but I do not relish the thought of having to go look for unique and appropriate gifts (although custom usb drives are always fun to look at). This year, maybe I'll be a Scrooge again. Halloween is perhaps more interesting, in terms of people really exerting effort. Many of those in my circle really get into coming up with the craziest costumes, and this year is no different. I saw photos all over the place (yeah photos - I have been living like a hermit this past week), and all I could say was WOW. From gladiators (Spartacus) to witches to Top Gun characters to GI Joe - how and why do they do it??? They look awesome, that is true, but what do they get out of donning those costumes? Am I missing something here?

Still Needing a Halloween Costume

It's been a month or so since I started thinking about Halloween costumes and I still do not have one! I really need to get this done because I just cannot show up without a costume this time around. Come to think of it, I have always been bad with Costumes . I already shared that story about being new in my current job and being the only person on the team NOT wearing a costume for Halloween. Going further back in time, I cannot remember a single time that I had a great costume. When I was in college, I would hide in my dorm room because I did not want to socialize and I didn't have a good costume of my own. Oh well, things change and thank God I have found Costume Cauldron. They not only provide cool costumes for all occasions - Halloween not exempted - but they also pay special attention to halloween costume safety . This is particularly important for me as, if you have any idea about our company, our parties can get quite wild. People at work love their alcohol a
