Girl Power

I read this quote from a friend's status on Facebook. I used it as my status today and I just knew that I had to put it in my blog somewhere. Women, enjoy! Whatever you give a woman, she will make greater. If you give her sperm, she'll give you a baby. If you give her a house, she'll give you a home. If you give her groceries, she'll give you a meal. If you give her a smile, she'll give you her heart. She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her. So, if you give her any crap, be ready to receive a ton of shit.

Monday Pick Me Upper: Children Bring Smiles

I just had a wonderful weekend with my little brother, my cousin, and my nephew. They're all boys, hence my "weekend with the boys." The condo is a mess - it looks like a hurricane just went through the shoebox. I have had little sleep. I am broke. But I have a huge smile on my face. Now here's your turn to smile. I hope these jokes help make your Monday a little easier. It's true that children brighten up a home. They never turn off the lights. A mother was teaching her three year old daughter The Lord's Prayer. For several evenings at bedtime, she repeated it after her mother. One night she said she was ready to solo. The mother listened with pride, as she carefully said each word right up to the end..."And lead us not into temptation", she prayed, "but deliver us some e-mail, Amen." A little boy, at a wedding looks at his mom and says, "Mommy, why does the bride wear white?" His mom replies, "The bride is in w

Sun Wireless Broadband

Time to be geeky. I finally got tired of having to reload Monnette's SmartBro Prepaid thingie all the time. I borrowed it off her, thinking that I would only have to wait a week or so for my Destiny cable internet, which is the ONLY ISP they allow in the building. Unfortunately, Destiny is having some "facilities problem" in our building and they are not hooking up new connections. And nope, they can't tell us when they will have the issues fixed. So why the heck are they locking the ENTIRE building to their sucky service? Anyhow, SmartBro works alright every so often. The thing is, I end up spending so much money on loading it up. So I decided to look around and I found Sun's postpaid service, which is unlimited. Lucky for me, I discovered a neighbor who handles some agents for this service, and they got it hooked up within ONE day. Excellent service, I have to say. My only problem now is that we live up high, literally. According to the agent, Sun

Playing With Wolfram|Alpha

I discovered a site through my sister's blog . It's called Wolfram|Alpha and it is making my blood run wild! What is it? It's basically a site in which you can enter questions, math formulas, calculations, and most any other kind of data. You will then get relevant info on your query. If you still don't get it, let's say you input 90 Fahrenheit. You'll get this: Input interpretation: Unit conversions: Comparisons as temperature: You even get info such as the thermodynamic energy! How cool is that? Useless for me right now, but cool, nonetheless. Here's a more impressive explanation from the web site: Wolfram|Alpha's long-term goal is to make all systematic knowledge immediately computable and accessible to everyone. We aim to collect and curate all objective data; implement every known model, method, and algorithm; and make it possible to compute whatever can be computed about anything. Ou

In Search of the Perfect Hangover Cure

All sorts of people swear by their perfect cure for a hangover. I had a killer one today, brought about by an evening that was both enjoyable and stressful. I rarely have a bad hangover, but today was different. I spent almost all day in bed, hiding from daylight and noise. Unfortunately, I had made plans to go out with friends tonight so I had to get rid of that pounding head and queasy stomach FAST. I think I have found THE cure: 1. Two extra strength Tylenols 2. An hour and half long deep tissue massage (I love how you can have the masseuse come to your house!) 3. A 500mg mefenamic acid tablet 4. Lots of water 5. A 2-hour nap At the end of the day, I was able to get up, eat at a Chinese buffet (topped it off with 4 scoops of ice cream!), and spend several hours at a bar. It's 3 am now and I'm still going... KFC Arroz Caldo

I bet KFCs in other countries do not have this dish. It's basically rice porridge with chicken. For me, this is comfort food at its finest. I haven't had it for the longest time but when I was a child, arroz caldo was a regular thing. Now, decades later, I find it ironic that I can get this local dish from an American fastfood chain; not to mention the fact that I am eating it at 11 pm, after work. Arroz caldo is a traditional breakfast food, by the way. Maybe I need an appetite suppressant . I shouldn't really be eating this right before midnight. Oh well, it is so good!

Restless Dreams

Was out again last night. The past few days have gone by in a blur, and I can barely remember the details. It's been that kind of week, and it was not a surprise that everyone wanted a drink or two last night. It was also not surprising that I had restless dreams. I dreamt that I was on a small island, which I called home. I dreamt that I was running a small beach resort; that I was writing for a living. It was so detailed. I can even describe my beach resort, down to the outdoor furniture . I have to correct myself and say the dream was not restless in itself. It was my feeling when I woke up that I can describe as restless...when will this dream come true?

Good Things About NOT Having Broadband at Home

This is probably going to be a very short list, but let me try anyway. 1. I have more time to sleep. While I should really be up and working, at least I find more time to get some rest. 2. I organize my work schedule better. Since I am using a mobile prepaid connection, I want to make the most out of the time I am connected. This means that I gather all the information I need for my articles, disconnect, and write "in peace." That is, I write without the usual distractions of Facebook and IM. 3. I spend less time on planning weekend getaways that we probably would end up not going to. While I would like to go away every weekend, it simply is not possible. I normally compensate for this by planning trips that are not really possible - call it my travel "window shopping." Without broadband, at least I only plan trips that are actually feasible. I told you this was going to be a very short list...I really cannot think of any other advantage of NOT havin

Empty Handed

I rarely go to the mall, but since I had some errands to run today, I decided to go along with Jerry's urge to go shopping. It was an epic failure. I was able to talk to the people at Globe, BUT I can't get the wireless thing set up at home. That means I have to make do with Smart Bro prepaid OR get Sun. The Sun people are coming here next week to test it out. We went looking for a PS3 - JJ (Jethro Junior) - but our deal was that we would only get it if we found one that was being sold on a deferred payment plan on my CC. We even went to several malls - nada. We were supposed to go get shoes for Jerry; came home empty handed. We might as well have gone looking for Ferrari parts in Quiapo. It seems that today was not a shopping day for us. One good thing: we have had a very good weekend together; something that we have not had in a while. :)

Growing Dexter

No kids for us but we have a turtle, and my, is he growing big! We didn't really expect Dex to get this big. His sister, Casey, died a few weeks after we got them. We thought that Dex would follow soon but he has overcome the odds! Take a look at that big boy. Talking of pets, I saw this cute dog in the elevator earlier when we went down to eat dinner (fastfood!). This building is "pet-friendly" and we could have a dog if we wanted one. Well, I do kinda want a dog but it is such a hassle to take care of one. I don't even know where we would put one, much more all the toys and other dog supplies that we will need. For now, Dexter should be enough.

Fastfood Glut

It has been three weeks since we moved to our new place, and I really am loving it. While I do have to walk to the office, it has not been that much of an effort; and at the end of the work day, I really look forward to going at home and relaxing a bit before getting some sleep. One bad thing is that I end up NOT cooking. We did our bi-weekly grocery shopping last weekend and the stash has barely been touched. For one, the kitchen's smaller than I am used to - it is hard to move around. Another reason is that there are so many choices downstairs - I just have to walk and find something to eat. The result: fastfood, fastfood, and more fastfood. This is so not good. I thought I would actually live a healthier lifestyle here but it doesn't look like it's gonna happen anytime soon. Maybe I'll be better off with Apidexin or something similar. (Oh yeah, I am at McCafe right now...the cinnamon roll is actually good!)

Smoker's Haven?

For the second day in a row, I have been up before 7 am. This means being able to watch the early morning news shows for a change, and guess what I just heard? Officials in China are being ordered by the government to smoke MORE locally made cigarettes in order to boost the economy. Think I am joking? Here is a snippet of the report from ABC : In the hopes of raising tax revenue and boosting the regional economy, the county told civil servants, including teachers, to smoke nearly a quarter of a million packs of the local brands every year. To be fair to the government, their rationale is: A statement posted on the Gong'An government Web site today said the edict was introduced last month to crack down on illegal cigarette smuggling and the trade in counterfeit cigarette brands, claiming that it harmed consumers and led to losses in revenue for the government. What can I say? It's crazy, yet hilarious at the same time. If you want to smoke more, go apply for a job wit

Where Is Summer?

For those who have been saying that global warming is a myth, come over to the Philippines. It is early May, the middle of summer. Yet we are getting low pressure areas (the beginnings of a typhoon) and it has been raining like crazy! I have always been one to complain about the heat and humidity but right about now, I could use a more summery kind of weather. Is the weather/climate ever going back to "normal" again?

Jack Nights

It still amazes me how you meet people in your life who can make a difference. I am an introvert and I don't like interacting with people most of the time, but there are those who just make an impact in my life. For the most part, I don't mind spending time with them. Heck, I actually find myself NEEDING their company sometimes! Yeah, I have had a couple (or so) Jacks tonight, hence the introspective, sentimental mood. I guess it's one of those nights...I am on "the edge of something much too deep," but somehow, it will turn out OK one way or the other. Here's to Jack Nights!
