Going Gadget Crazy - HP Mini-Note and Acer Aspire One

This rarely happens but when it does, I can't stop till my craving (for lack of a better word) is satisfied. These past few weeks, it seems that a gadget craze has gotten hold of me. It started with the NEO Roadshow at work.

Then I began to discover other better options in the mini laptop range. I am now down to three options and all of them are looking good. I already posted about the MSI Wind. The other two are the Acer Aspire One and the HP Mini-Note.

Specs for the Acer Aspire One:

  • 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 LED-backlit display
  • 1.6GHz Atom N270
  • 512MB DDR2 SDRAM (expandable)
  • 1.3 megapixel camera, SDHC and multi-format media readers
  • 802.11b/g, Ethernet, three USB 2.0, VGA, and 3.5mm audio out
  • One free mini PCI slot for WWAN
  • 80GB hard drive (with XP) or 8GB solid state (with Linux)
  • 2.5 or 5 hours on 3 or 6-cell batteries in XP model, 3 or 7 hours on Linux
  • 1kg (2.2 pounds)
Isn't that a beauty? I would really love to have the blue one. I called Acer Philippines yesterday and the guy said they don't have the option for the 8oG SATA HDD - YET. He couldn't give me a time frame as to when that would happen but he said it would definitely happen.

Specs for the HP Mini-Note:
  • 1.19 kg
  • 8.9 inch wide XGA display 1280×768
  • Close to full size keyboard
  • 3D DriveGuard with accelerometer for parking the hard drive when the computer falls
  • Webcam
  • Two battery solutions: 3 cell for ultralightweight config // 6 cell for extended battery life
  • 802.11g WLAN
  • Bluetooth
  • Option for Windows Vista Basic, Windows Vista Business or Linux Preinstalled
  • Scratch resistant screen
  • Hp DuraKeys
  • Via 1.0GHz Processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 120GB Hard Drive

This baby's not as beautiful as the Acer but it is HP and the specs are way better, I think. I also called several stores and they won't have stock till next week. Oh, the price - Acer is going for PHP18,800 while the HP starts at PHP24,000++.

What's it gonna be?

  1. Darn you, temptation! *sigh* I'll be thinking about that Aspire One for a long time...

    I don't need it...I don't need it...I don't need it...

  2. Have you seen this?

Dell's coming out with a version too. I'm wondering about that chart though. It says that running XP plus Office will sacrifice performance. What the point of having XP if you can't run Office or anything else?

  3. Hey Aves, yeah I saw some articles on Dell's version. The storage device is SSD, though. I am still leaning towards the Aspire One or the Wind. The HP Mini-Note - no one seems to have it in stock over here! Let's go shopping later?
