How You Play The Cards

"You see, things aren't sequential. Good doesn't lead to good nor bad to bad. People steal, don't get caught. Live the good life. Others lie, cheat and get elected. Some people stop to help a stranded motorist and get taken out by a speeding semi. There's no accounting for it. How you play the cards you're dealt, that's all that matters."

-- Jonathan Kramer

I saw this quote in an e-mail I received earlier today. It struck me so deeply that I could not help but think about it even as I sit here at home ready for bed.

Indeed, life can be unfair - it is unfair a lot of times. There are things beyond our control and there is nothing that we can do about those things. But then, whether or not we dwell on those things depends on us. The decision to whether or not we let our lives be derailed because of the unfairness of events lies solely in our hands. How we play the cards we're dealt - that is all that matters.

In other words - pardon my being crass - shit happens. The answer to "What now?" lies in our hands.

  1. So true my dear, so true. It's just when "shit happens" it is sometimes difficult to figure out what to do.

    Good quote.

  2. Yeah Delaney, and sometimes, even when you know what the right thing is, it still is hard to actually get up on your butt and do it.
